The day
A class morning, from door to pickup
Every class follows the same rhythm, so children know what comes next. The teachers follow the children's play from there.
- 019:00 a.m.
Step 1: Arrival and free play
A teacher greets each child at the door. Children choose from the shelves: blocks, dough, dress-up, books.
- 029:40 a.m.
Step 2: Circle
A song, a story and a look at what the morning holds. Children sit where they like and join in as they are ready.
- 0310:10 a.m.
Step 3: Snack
Children serve themselves at a low table and pour their own water. The parent on duty sits with a few children.
- 0410:40 a.m.
Step 4: Outdoor time
The yard behind the hall, or a walk to the nearby park. Rain jackets and boots go on, and the group goes out.
- 0511:30 a.m.
Step 5: A project
Clay, paint, collage or a building job that grows over a few mornings. Teachers write down what children say about their work.
- 0612:10 p.m.
Step 6: Story and goodbye
A last story and a song, then children go home with the adults on the pickup list.
Outdoors
Time outside is part of the morning
On most mornings the group goes out for a while, in the yard or on a short walk to the park. Teachers take the first aid kit and count the children out and back in.
We go out in light rain and bring the group in when the weather turns. The weather plan for the week is posted for parents on duty.
